Gaza: 'Less politicking and more practical assistance needed'

PETALING JAYA - Political leaders have been slammed for capitalising on various issues, including the Gaza bloodshed.

Former law minister Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim highlighted the need to shift focus from exploiting these matters to find genuine ways in supporting the Palestinian cause.

"We (political leaders) are known for taking advantage of any issue.

"Yes, we are boycotting certain franchises, and it's up to them...But, for how long?

"How about providing solutions? Maybe political leaders and those boycotting can give solutions?" Zaid said in a recent interview with Sinar Daily.

Zaid, a seasoned lawmaker, suggested that, instead of boycotting, attention should be directed towards strengthening the local economy.

"Politicians to lead the way in generating ideas to boost the economy.

"Less politicking and more practical assistance needed," he added.

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since Oct 7 has risen to 11,500, including 4,710 children and 3,160 women, as announced by the government media office in Gaza on Wednesday.

The statement also reported that 22 civil defense personnel and 51 journalists have been killed, with 29,800 people injured with over 70 per cent of them are children and women. It also highlighted the destruction of 95 government buildings, 255 schools, 74 mosques (completely destroyed), and 162 partially damaged mosques, along with three churches.

The Palestinian telecommunication regulatory authority issued a warning that communication services in Gaza would come to a total halt due to a severe fuel shortage.
