Julie's Biscuits encourages the public to reduce plastic waste

KUALA LUMPUR - Julie's Biscuits, through the 'Upcycling From Waste to WOW' programme, invites the public to use creativity as a means of environmental protection or 'upcycling' to reduce plastic waste in the country.
The programme, in collaboration with Beyond Bins by Biji-biji Initiative, was the highlight of an innovative workshop aimed at exposing participants to the recycling process and transforming Julie's Biscuit plastic tabs, specifically 'Love Letters,' into lanterns or glowing lights.
Julie's Biscuits Director Tzy Horng Sai said that this approach was seen as inspiring participants by providing an interactive experience that promotes sustainability, creativity, and self-development.
"'From Waste to WOW' features practical demonstrations and promotes practical skills with guidance from experts in the 'upcycling' world. We believe in the transformative power of 'upcycling.' Therefore, this workshop is a first-time showcase encouraging creative activities to turn ordinary 'Love Letters' plastic tabs into a glowing lantern," he said.
He said this during the 'Upcycling' programme by Julie's Biscuit, 'From Waste to WOW,' at Publika Shopping Gallery, Solaris Dutamas on Friday.
Tzy said the collaboration with Beyond Bins emphasises a commitment to environmental responsibility while showcasing limitless opportunities to transform waste into creative and functional products.
"This collaboration aligns with our mission to inspire positive change and reduce the environmental impact," he added.
Meanwhile, Biji-Biji Initiative Chief Executive Officer Juliana Adam said their long-standing collaboration with Julie's Biscuits was based on shared values of environmental sustainability.
"We want to create forward-moving changes towards sustainability for ourselves and the country. Our vision at Biji-Biji Initiative is to democratise access to technology and education for fostering inclusive sustainability and development," she said.
Also present at the event was Julie's Biscuits Director, Martin Ang.
