Social media users draw parallels between Syed Saddiq's case and Zahid's acquittal
SHARIFAH SHAHIRAHSHAH ALAM - The recent conviction of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has sparked discussions on social media, with many drawing parallels between his case and that of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Today's news about Syed Saddiq and other current events have been widely discussed by people of different generations on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
The High Court judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid found Syed Saddiq guilty of four charges related to misappropriation of funds from Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada), the Youth wing of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.
The judge ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Many social media users have expressed their opinions on the cases, highlighting the contrast between Syed Saddiq's conviction and Zahid's acquittal in his own corruption trial.
On TikTok, several users commented on posts about Syed Saddiq's case, drawing comparisons with Zahid's situation.
"He should have followed Zahid's lead because that's where the cable is located," user @Ikmalfahmi95 commented.
Another user, @nazrzd._, wrote, "The matter will end when YB behaves similarly to Zahid."
"What about Zahid? And after 47 cases, everyone simply closed their eyes?" user @anip1987 commented.
Similar sentiments were echoed on Twitter.
User @anas_sherman wrote: "Damn, I'm not a big fan of him, but if he's punished, what about Zahid? Bung Mokhtar? Muhyiddin Yassin? Where's their punishment, jail terms and strokes?"
"Syed Saddiq goes to jail but Zahid Hamidi?" user @nurnabilah said.
User @joeljeshurun_ questioned the motives behind the prosecution, stating: "More like political prosecution, what happened to Zahid and other prominent politicians?"
Instagram users also voiced their opinions, expressing frustration over the perceived double standards in the justice system.
"Malaysia witnessed how Zahid Hamidi with 47 cases escaped, Bung Mokhtar and Zizie Ezetta escaped and many more cases from the leadership of the unity party escaped.
"Biased decision. Law of the jungle," user @neeza.kamalzaman commented.
Facebook users also chimed in, with @Leman Talib commenting: "Zahid's ability to escape is still amazing, while Syed Saddiq is only naive and ignorant."
User @Wawa Wazna added: "Whoever supports the party, he is secure. It is not safe to not support."
The contrasting outcomes of the Syed Saddiq and Zahid cases have sparked a debate about the fairness and consistency of the Malaysian justice system.
Social media users are expressing their concerns about perceived double standards and calling for accountability from all levels of government.
