MWCQP unites 51 organisations, activists to confront ongoing Gaza genocide
SHARIFAH SHAHIRAHSHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Women's Coalition for Al-Quds and Palestine (MWCQP) has taken a courageous stance in response to the ongoing and devastating genocide in Gaza.
They have rallied together 51 non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), lawmakers, and activists, urging swift and decisive intervention from the United Nations (UN).
"The coalition stands in solidarity with all those advocating for the freedom of Palestine and Al-Quds.
"MWCQP strongly calls on the international community to take immediate action and express their solidarity to end the suffering in Gaza, thereby creating conditions for a just and peaceful future for the Palestinian people," the group said in a statement today.
In collaboration with concerned individuals and organisations, MWCQP has outlined crucial demands in an open letter submitted to the UN.
"These demands include the immediate cessation of hostilities, unrestricted access to food, water, housing, medical supplies, gasoline, and electricity for Gaza," the statement further read.
It also highlights the need to ensure the physical safety of civilians and humanitarian relief workers.
MWCQP additionally calls for the immediate lifting of Israel's illegal 16-year-long siege of Gaza.
"Reparation, restitution, and reconstruction must be pursued to achieve full freedom and justice for the people of Gaza.
"Demand an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
"Take immediate steps with the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate all war crimes, past and present, including acts of genocide, and bring the perpetrators to justice," the statement added.
Nine members from MWCQP and affiliated organisations personally delivered the open letter, highlighting their unwavering commitment to this cause.
Representatives included Zuraidah Kornain (MWCQP Chairperson), Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan (Honorary Advisor of MWCQP and Board of Trustees of MyCARE), Azra Banu (MWCQP and BDS Malaysia exco), Mas Jonid (MWCQP Deputy Chair & Rose2Rose exco), Norsham Abu Bakar (Rose2Rose Chairperson), Farwina Faroque (BDS Malaysia & Media Associates of MWCQP Secretary-General), Ghazrizah Hashim (Rumah Ngaji N9 Founder), Maznah Daud (Mawaddah Advisor), and Susilawati Hamzah (Wanita IKRAM Secretary).
Karima El Korri, the resident coordinator of the UN offices in Putrajaya accepted the open letter and has assured its prompt forwarding to UN headquarters.
