Zakir Naik to donate RM1.52 million defamation damages to Palestinian cause

SHAH ALAM – Independent Islamic preacher from India, Dr Zakir Naik has announced that he will donate RM1.52 million in compensation from former Penang deputy chief minister II, P. Ramasamy, to the Palestinian cause.

Zakir, who has permanent resident status in Malaysia, shared his gratitude to the Kuala Lumpur High Court for granting him defamation damages in his civil suits against Ramasamy.

"I would like to thank the High Court of Malaysia for ordering Ramasamy, the former deputy chief minister of Penang, to pay me RM1.52 million in defamation damages.

"I would like to donate the full amount of RM1.52 million to the Palestinian cause.

"I pray that Allah accepts from me this humble effort for His sake," Zakir said in a Facebook posting today.

He added that the Palestinians are carrying out a communal duty on behalf of all Muslims by safeguarding the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

"I pray that Allah bestows steadfastness and triumph upon the Palestinian resistance.

"May He alleviate the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, empower them against their oppressors, and grant their martyrs the highest rank in Paradise. Aameen," he added.

The payment is to be made within 30 days.

On Nov 2, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz ordered Ramasamy to pay the amount in damages after allowing two lawsuits filed by Naik due to defaming the latter, four years ago.

In October and December 2019, Naik filed two separate lawsuits accusing Ramasamy of making five defamatory statements against him.
