KULIM - A 28-year-old man was arrested on Thursday to assist in an investigation into a case of beating and injuring his eight-year-old son in Lunas.

Kulim district police chief Superintendent Mohd Azizul Mohd Khairi said that police received a video that went viral on TikTok at about 10am on the same day.

He said the one-minute-and-25-second clip showed a man beating a child.

"Following that, a team of officers and members of the Kulim District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division arrested a man at Padang Serai at around 2pm to assist in the investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code (Voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act," he said in a statement yesterday.

If convicted, the man could be jailed for two years or fined RM4,000 or both.

Azizul also advised the public not to abuse social media by spreading any statement that could upset public order.
