JOHOR BAHRU - Former Member of Parliament for Sekijang Natrah Ismail, passed away today due to cancer at Segamat Hospital.

The late Natrah Ismail, who was also a member of the Women's Leadership Council of the People's Justice Party (PKR), was 73 years old when she breathed her last at 9pm.

PKR Johor Youth Chief ,Mohamad Taufiq Ismail described her passing as a great loss, particularly for the party.

"PKR Johor expresses our condolences to the family of the late Natrah Ismail, also known as 'Kak Natrah.'

"It's a significant loss, especially for the larger PKR family.

"May the soul of the late Natrah Ismail rest among the faithful and the righteous. Al-Fatihah," he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday night.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil also confirmed her death in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“She (Natrah) was a good person, orderly, and always dedicated to advocating for the people’s welfare,” wrote Fahmi, who is also the PKR information chief.

Natrah last made headlines in 2021 claiming that she had been approached to defect and give her support as a federal lawmaker to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government led by then prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

She was reported to have rejected the offer.

In last year’s 15th general election (GE15), Natrah was not fielded as a PKR candidate due to her ailing heath, with Dr Zaliha Mustafa replacing her as the Sekijang MP.
