Cleaner charged with rape and sexual assault of daughter

KEMAMAN - A cleaner has been brought to the Sessions Court here on two charges of raping and sexually abusing his daughter in an incident that occurred last Sept.

However, the 36-year-old pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Wan Suhaila Mohd.

According to the charges, the accused is charged with raping the 13-year-old victim in a house on Jalan Mak Cili here at around 8am on Sept 29.

The accused is charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code and can be punished under the same section.

If convicted, the accused faces a prison sentence of not less than eight years and not more than 30 years, as well as a minimum of 10 strokes of the cane.

In addition, the accused is also charged with committing physical sexual abuse against the victim on the same date, time, and location.

The accused is charged under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and can be punished under the same section.

If found guilty, the accused faces a prison sentence of up to 20 years and can be punished with caning.

After recording the confession, the court ordered the accused to post bail of RM14,000 with a guarantor and set Dec 4 for a re-mention of the case.

The case is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Syairah Mohamad Razali, while the accused is not represented by a lawyer.
