JEMPOL - Jempol police have fined a local man for letting his underage son take the wheel, resulting in a crash on Jalan Bahau-Juasseh earlier this week.

Jempol district police chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook confirmed that the fine was slapped under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which prohibits minors from operating motor vehicles.

The incident unfolded at around 10.15pm, involving a 15-year-old boy driving a Nissan Almera from Juasseh towards Bahau.

"As he was driving, the kid lost control and swerved off to the left.

"The car then smashed into a fence and hit a lamppost before winding up on Kiara Business Centre's road," Hoo said.

The impact caused the lamppost to fall onto two parked cars at the business centre's parking lot near the accident site.

"Thankfully, nobody got hurt, but the teen's car is pretty much a write-off.

"The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.

Hoo also took the opportunity to remind everyone on the road to play it safe.

"Parents, please, it's your job to make sure your kids aren't driving without a valid licence," he said.

This incident follows another car accident near Kiara Business Centre that had made waves on Facebook, featuring photos of an overturned vehicle.
