Terengganu sets up development plan control to manage flood issues
NURFARDLINA IZZATI MOKTARKUALA TERENGGANU - Terengganu government has established control over development plans in the state in compliance with the Environmental-Friendly Drainage Master Plan Study (Pisma) in order to overcome the risk of flooding in the state during the monsoon season.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said that he had also referred to the Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study completed to control the flood problem taking place every year in Terengganu.
"For development areas often affected by flood and flood mitigation projects that have not yet been executed, flood mitigation methods can be applied in new development plans in those areas.
"For example, building houses with stilts and flood barriers for existing premises.
"We may not be able to solve this flood problem entirely, but we are consistently looking for a solution to reduce the risk that will affect many residents," he wrote on Facebook today.
Commenting further, Samsuri said that the state government, through the State Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), has continuously applied for allocations, particularly through the 12th Malaysia Plan.
He said that he was planning and implementing the construction of drainage systems and flood mitigation programmes for the whole of Terengganu.
