UPSR will not be making a comeback - Fadhlina

NIBONG TEBAL - The Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) will not be reinstated, despite requests from parents who want it to be conducted again.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, said that the ministry is currently focusing on the 2027 curriculum through outreach and engagement to gather public opinions on the new school curriculum.

"We ask parents to focus on these outreach and engagement efforts because we want broad input to strengthen the country's education system.

"Currently, we want to focus on holistic assessment for our children, especially their overall development, to ensure their character can be strengthened," she said when speaking to the media here on Saturday.

Earlier, Fadhlina, who is also the Nibong Tebal MP, attended the Amanita Lifting Garden launching ceremony at Taman Pekaka, Seberang Perai Selatan, at SMK Saujana Indah.

Penang chief police, Datuk Khaw Kok Chin, was also present during the event.

On April 28 last year, former Education Minister, Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, announced the complete abolition of UPSR, and the Form Three Assessment (PT3) was also cancelled in the same year.

Mohd Radzi had stated that they would implement in-class assessments (Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah or PBD) to measure the achievements of students.

UPSR was introduced in 1988 with a basic focus at that time on the 4M's : reading, writing, arithmetic, and reasoning, while the PT3 assessment was implemented in 2014 to replace the Lower Secondary Assessment (PMR).
