KL cops dispose of drugs worth RM8.89 million
KUALA LUMPUR - Various types of drugs, worth RM8.89 million, seized in the capital between 2001 and 2021, will be disposed of today, said Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid.
He said that the disposal of the drugs would be carried out by an appointed contractor in Bukit Pelanduk, Negeri Sembilan.
"The disposal process involves 2,894 investigation papers, in which trials have already been completed.
"The drugs included methamphetamine weighing 36.1 kilogrammes (kg); heroin (34.1 kg); cannabis (72.2 kg), ketamine (1.5 kg) and ketum water (mitragynine) 871,579 millilitres,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters (IPK) today.
Allaudeen said that the total estimated weight of the drugs to be disposed of was 325.3 kg and 907,589 ml, while the total market price of all the drugs was estimated at RM8.89 million, which could be used by 250,000 addicts.
Meanwhile, in PAHANG, the police disposed of 2,388 items, consisting of various types of drugs, worth an estimated RM4.5 million, seized over a period of 15 years, starting in 2008.
State police chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, said that all the drugs would be disposed of by a Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd contractor in Bukit Pelanduk, at noon.
The disposal involves 12 types of drugs, including 6.1 kilogrammes (kg) of methamphetamine, cannabis (1.3 kg), heroin (707.5 grammes) (g), ketamine (36.14 g), 398 kg of ketum leaves and 5,853 litres of ketum water.
"The drugs were disposed of after receiving a court order at the end of the trial, and the appeal period for the sentence imposed on the offender has also expired,” he said at a press conference at the Pahang IPK, here today.
Meanwhile, Yahaya said that the Pahang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) arrested 970 individuals involved in various drug-related offences, in 615 operations, statewide from Oct 1 to 23. - BERNAMA
