SHAH ALAM - Three activists from the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and a farmer who were arrested while attempting to stop the eviction of farmers in Kanthan, Tambun, have been released on police bail.

A statement released by PSM said that these four individuals were released at 8pm after having their statements taken.

The individuals were PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, PSM committee member R. Karthiges, Perak PSM Youth member P. Kesavan, and a farmer identified as Ho Pon Tien.

PSM said that they have not yet received a response from Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad's office on the activists' demands for the eviction to be halted.

Meanwhile, Suaram has called for a swift investigation into the incident in Perak where an activist was injured in a confrontation with Ipoh Land and Mines Office (PTG) officers.

It said it was the responsibility of government officials to act with fairness and integrity, condemning the reported violence.

Suaram also demanded the release of detained activists, an investigation into the incident, and a review of the legality of the forced eviction.

It urged inclusive processes involving affected farmers and stakeholders, with the involvement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
