Reckless driving claims friend's life, injuring a septuagenarian
SERDANG - A man's reckless driving led to the tragic death of his friend and an injury to an elderly person in an incident at Kilometre 15 of the Kuala Lumpur-Putrajaya Motorway (MEX) last Sunday.
At approximately 3pm, the man was driving a BMW when he collided with the rear of a Honda CRV travelling from Putrajaya towards Kuala Lumpur.
Serdang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner A. A. Anbalagan said the incident was reported to the Serdang District Police Headquarters at around 3.05pm.
"The victim was a 30-year-old local man who was in the BMW driven by his 29-year-old friend.
"Their vehicle lost control and crashed into the rear of a Honda CRV," he said in a statement today.
He explained that the collision caused the Honda CRV, driven by a 71-year-old man, to skid to the left.
"The victim's car skidded into the middle of the road, and the victim sitting in the front passenger seat was thrown out.
"The victim was confirmed dead at the scene, while the Honda CRV driver suffered injuries to his neck," he said.
He added that the victim's body was taken to the Serdang Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
