According to the Transport Ministry, the current train frequency for peak hours is 3.8 minutes, compared to 4.4 minutes in December 2022, following the introduction of three new train sets starting last month.
"Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has made several efforts to improve train service frequency. Three four-coach trains (for the Kelana Jaya line) commenced operations in September 2023.
"The remaining 16 trains will be received in stages until December 2024 under the Kuala Lumpur Additional Vehicles 27 (KLAV27) project,” it said in an oral answer published on the Parliament’s website today.
As for the Kajang Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line, the ministry said that train wheel replacements are underway, and the targeted train frequency during peak hours is set to improve from six minutes to four minutes by the end of January 2024.
In addition, the ministry said that Prasarana is implementing various initiatives for the Kelana Jaya LRT Line and Kajang MRT Line, including special programmes to repair train components that frequently experience issues.
"(These programmes include) train wheel replacements and maintenance activities focused on addressing the root causes of train failures during operations to enhance train availability,” it said. - BERNAMA
