Renowned actress and director Ellie Suriaty Omar has expressed her disappointment with the Solidarity Palestine rally held Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

She described the rally as misleading for Malaysians who came to show support for the people of Gaza who were being oppressed by Israel.

"It is evident that this rally was an attempt to play with the minds and faith of the Malaysians, who stand firmly in their support for Palestine.

"My question is, why did none of the speakers at the rally dare to condemn the war crimes and oppression committed by the Zionist Israel against the people of Palestine?.

"Why didn't the words Israel or Zionist come out of the mouths of the speakers? Who is the one actually oppressing the people of Gaza?," she said in an Instagram post.

The 53-year-old woman also expressed her surprise when Malaysians who attended the rally to show solidarity were criticised for behaving like 'Israel'.

"A Malaysian citizen holding a placard condemning Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister) had his placard seized and was even criticised for behaving like a Zionist Israeli.

"People were forbidden from shouting 'Allahuakbar' under the pretext of not hurting non-Muslim feelings.

Most of Ellie's Instagram followers also agreed with her post and questioned the organisers' decision to prohibit the use of the word 'Allahuakbar and saying that the participants of the rally had acted like 'Zionists'.

Ellie joined the rally with her sibling and child, yesterday.

Prior to that, she participated in a demonstration in front of the US Embassy.
