Takiyuddin criticises Nik Nazmi’s remarks on Pas outreach to non-Muslim voters
SHAH ALAM – Pas Secretary General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan strongly criticised the PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad over his remarks concerning Pas President who encouraged Pas members to reach out to non-Muslim voters.
Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said this during his inaugural speech at the 69th Pas Muktamar at Ideal Convention Centre, yesterday.
Earlier, it was reported that Nik Nazmi had accused Hadi of saying one thing today and another tomorrow which showed that Marang MP was now open to approach a group that was previously deemed unimportant.
Prior to this, Takiyuddin stressed that Pas maintained a positive stance toward non-Muslims who did not hold extreme views, however, it was unfeasible to collaborate with individuals or groups with extreme ideologies.
"We have no issues with non-Muslims who do not hold extreme views. However, cooperating with those who possess extreme ideologies is impossible," he said during today's press conference.
Takiyuddin, who is also Kota Bharu MP also highlighted that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition had a history of successful collaborations with non-Muslim communities by giving the example of the Chinese Consultative Council (CCC).
He also added that the party's amicable relationships with parties like MCA and MIC within Barisan Nasional (BN).
"I believe it's not accurate to say that our past statements differ from our present ones.
“Those who make such claims belong to different parties, and it's not just a matter of spoken words but also documented commitments,” he added.
He further explained that some parties made promises in their manifestos but fail to implement them when in power, emphasising that such parties were distinct from Pas.
