Let aid ‘lifeline’ for Gaza in, UN secretary-general urges Israel
SHAH ALAM - The United Nations secretary-general urges Israel to get the aid flowing into the besieged Palestinian enclave.
In addressing the restrictions being imposed on aid deliveries to Gaza, Antonio Guterres said the delivery of relief materials must reach the Palestinians who were suffering immediately.
Guterres who was visiting the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip said there were many trucks which were loaded with food, water, fuel and medicines on the other side of the wall waiting to be let in, as Israel’s bombing and blockade continued.
He described the trucks as a lifeline for the Palestinians.
“Behind these walls we have two million people who are suffering enormously, that has no water no food, no fuel and no medicine.
“On this side we see so many trucks loaded with water, with fuel, with medicines, with food and these trucks are not just trucks, they are a lifeline.
“They are the difference between life and death for so many people in Gaza and to see them stuck here makes me be very clear that what we need is to make them move to the other side of the wall, to make this move as quickly as possible and as many as possible,” he said in a press conference aired on Al-Jazeera’s social media platform.
