Daring heist: Thief grabs gold necklace worth RM58,000 and flees
ROSILAWATI ROSEDITEMERLOH - A Temerloh jewellery store suffered a loss of RM58,000 after a man grabbed a 195.35-gramme gold necklace and fled in a Honda City car with a fake registration number here today.
Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the incident occurred around 1.15pm.
"A man in his 40s, dressed in dark clothing, arrived alone and engaged with a 27-year-old salesperson to purchase jewellery.
"While dealing with the complainant, the suspect tried on a necklace worth RM20,000 before asking the victim to show a larger one.
"The victim then handed over a necklace worth RM58,000," Mazlan said in a statement today.
According to him, the suspect then returned both necklaces before asking the victim to hand over the RM58,000 necklace again.
As soon as the victim handed it over, the suspect grabbed the necklace and ran out of the store, fleeing.
The victim attempted to chase him but was unable to catch him.
"There was no security guard at the location of the incident, and other customers were present at the time," he added.
Mazlan said a thorough investigation would be conducted, and the case would be investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
