Hospital blast an act of terrorism, violation of international law - Tun M
KUALA LUMPUR - Israel's inhumane actions in attacking the hospital clearly showed that the Zionists had committed an extraordinary atrocity against the Palestinian people, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.
He said that the actions of the Zionist regime were in violation of international law, which does not allow hospitals or medical centres to be attacked during times of war.
"This is an extraordinary atrocity committed by the cruel Israeli Zionists.
"Attacking a hospital during a war is an act of terrorism and a violation of international law.
"For this reason, we are gathered here today to show our anger and protest against the Israeli regime," he said in a speech at a solidarity rally for Gaza and Palestine organised by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) at Jalan Tun Razak, near here, today.
Also present were former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, former prominent politician Chua Tian Chang, better known as Tian Chua, and social activist Hishamuddin Rais.
Furthermore, Dr Mahathir said Malaysians should oppose the United States (US) and Britain, which clearly supported the Zionist Israeli regime.
He said that the support given by these two countries to Israel should be opposed by people who loved peace and security.
Dr Mahathir said that the actions of these two countries in supporting Israel's attacks on hospitals in Gaza were classified as acts of terrorism.
He emphasised that the friendship shown by these two countries with the Zionist regime was contrary to the spirit of the Malaysian people, who loved peace and opposed oppression.
"Because of their friendship with Israel, which oppresses the Palestinian people, they have also committed a great crime and conspired with the Zionist regime," he said.
Therefore, he said, the people of this country should not accept these actions, which were clearly acts of tyranny.
Moreover, he said the actions of these two countries in supporting Israel did not portray them as so-called human rights advocates.
In this regard, he said Malaysians should not only express their dissatisfaction but also strive to provide assistance to Palestine.
He further stated that support for the Palestinian people can be translated by offering financial aid, medicines, and food.
