'You can’t purify filth if you’re in it' – Hadi turns down Asyraf Wajdi’s offer
SHAH ALAM – Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang delivers a biting retort to a notion that Pas can ‘purify Umno and DAP' if the Islamist party was to join the Unity Government, saying that it was impossible to cleanse “filth” in that manner.
“If one wants to clean filth, then one cannot be inside the filth.
"One would have to stay outside of it to do so,” was Hadi’s frank rejection to the suggestion proposed by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki today.
“You can you see for yourself the state of the Pakatan Harapan government. Who’s in it? How do you cleanse it? There’s a convict, a briber and the court clusters. How can we follow them?” Hadi asked, rhetorically.
He was speaking at a press conference held after officiating the 69th Pas Muktamar here today.
On whether Pas had indeed received a recent offer from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, asking the Pas to join his administration, Hadi stated that there was no such thing.
“No. The only invite was done through the international media,” he clarified, referring to the purported olive branch which Anwar claimed to have extended in an exclusive interview with Time magazine.
Pas Muktamar begins today and will end on Sunday. It was the second time Pas held its annual meeting in Selangor after 10 years.
