Hadi invites moderate non-Muslims to join the ‘Ummah Unity’ front
SHAH ALAM – In reiterating Pas’ unwavering commitment towards ‘Umah Unity’, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has also extended an olive branch to non-Muslims to be part of the brotherly solidarity front.
However, in his presidential address of the 69th Pas Muktamar, held here today, Hadi stressed that this invitation was for non-Muslims who do not espouse extremist views.
“This unity aims to bring together Malay Muslims and invite non-Muslims who do not embrace extremism, following the example set by Prophet Muhammad SAW in his Sirah.
“It’s crucial to emphasise that our call for unification of the ummah does not infringe upon the rights of non-Malays and non-Muslims.
“We are committed to upholding religious freedom and ensuring justice, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution,” Hadi assured.
He noted that that Pas’ main challenge, after managed to secure the bulk of Malays votes in the 15th General Election (GE15), was to woo the non-Malays into supporting the Islamist party.
“Therefore, a pivotal and weighty endeavour must be done to secure the support of non-Muslim and non-Malay voters in the upcoming GE16,” said Hadi.
Such undertaking, he added, demanded diligence, preparedness and astute implementation.
Hadi also highlighted the importance of Muslim solidarity and unity, claiming that when Muslims are divided, their collective strength diminishes.
“If we remain disunited, the interests of Malay Muslims will be trampled upon day by day, and the privileges of Islam, as well as the rights of Malays and Bumiputeras, will be constantly questioned,” he added.
