KUALA LUMPUR - Nine days after Sinar Harian exposed the issue of capsule-sized rental rooms, the Local Government Development Ministry along with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the police had conducted a surprise inspection regarding public complaints against the premises today.

The raid led by Minister Nga Kor Ming together with Fire and Rescue Department (Operations) Deputy Director Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad was carried out at 1pm to inspect the shop building which had violated the law for modifying the premises in order to place 38 capsule rental rooms in the capital.

The operation on the premises to eliminate fire hazards (MBK) started with a briefing session at Pudu Fire and Rescue Station at around noon before the minister's convoy with the fire department and several media practitioners arrived at the scene an hour later.

The inspection started on the second floor where it housed a dirty and cramped room that was dangerous for tenants.

As soon as Nga entered the room, the minister had to slide against the wall due to its small size and smelled the foul stench that tenants who lived there had to deal with.
