Takiyuddin mum on Pas candidate for Kemaman
SHAH ALAM - Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan is keeping mum on the party's candidate selection for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election.
The by-election is being held after the Terengganu Elections Court annulled the election victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid, following a successful petition by voter Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil, who alleged that bribery had occurred with the intention to influence voters during the 15th general election.
On Oct 3, Pas decided not to appeal the decision.
“The announcement for the candidate is expected to come before Dec 18,” Takiyuddin told reporters when met at the Pas's 69th Muktamar at the Ideal Convention Centre here today.
The Election Commission (EC) has set the polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu on Dec 2.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said the nomination day is Nov 18, while early voting is Nov 28.
When asked about rumors that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will likely be nominated, Takiyuddin stressed that all Malaysian citizens have the right to contest, irrespective of their origin.
“As it stands, we have not yet finalised the candidate who will represent us in the Kemaman Parliament,” he added.
