Child falls out as car makes U-turn, hit by two incoming cars
SHARIFAH SHAHIRAHSHAH ALAM – A child believed to be about five years old tumbled out of a Honda City as it made a U-turn at Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra, Kota Bharu yesterday.
In a dashboard video circulated on social media, the boy who fell was seen being hit by a sedan car and a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
He was then seen getting up and approached a motorcycle and was taken to a safe place.
The circulation of the video sparked outrage among social media users with many pointing out parent’s negligence in ensuring that the child was properly buckled up or failure to use the child lock feature of the car.
In one of the comments, a woman who claimed to be the mother of the child came forward to explain her side of the story and called on the person who had uploaded the video to take it down and stop talking about it.
The woman also acknowledged that she had made a mistake.
"What happened may be my fault, but only me and my family know the real situation that takes place.
“Put yourself in my shoe, I am a mother of five and I hardly take my kids out when I drive alone.
“I was talking to him when the incident took place I did not expect that he would unlock the car,” she said in the post.
She added that people should stop criticising her as they did not experience the same things as her.
"My kid usually sits in the front seat alongside me, but today he sulked and sat in the back seat.
"It was my mistake, I didn't ask for this to happen. So, I'm asking the admin to delete this video," she said.
Kota Bharu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said in the 5.42pm incident, the failure of the driver to ensure the door was closed properly and also to ensure the child was wearing a seat belt had led to the incident.
"An investigation was carried out in accordance with Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
Meanwhile, Kota Bharu deputy police, Chief Superintendent Mohd Suhaimi Ali said that police were tracking the parents of the child to assist in the investigation.
