KUALA LUMPUR - The substantial allocation to the police under the Home Minitry in Budget 2024 is seen as a strategic move to bolster the enforcement agency and enhance national security.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid lauded the RM19 billion allocation to the ministry, highlighting its potential to fortify the police's efforts in maintaining public order and ensuring national peace and security.

Razarudin stressed the RM20 million allocation to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) in the budget, representing a significant increase from the previous year's RM10 million, which is expected to enhance its capabilities in combating scam-related crimes.

He said the allocations have been earmarked to replace outdated assets, including seven twin-engine airplanes and five light helicopters.

"This asset renewal initiative is aimed at bolstering the nation's preparedness in terms of defence and security.

"The government has allocated RM2.4 billion for the construction, maintenance, and repair of civil servants' quarters, including those occupied by police personnel.

"RM5 million has been allocated to augment the number of tracker dogs (K9) for the police, the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department," Razarudin said in a statement today.

According to him, a government allocation of RM60 million will be used to appoint community rangers from among veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), police, Orang Asli communities, and local populations.

He noted that the government has also approved a RM1,000 incentive for key positions in the public sector, encompassing the police, fire brigade, army, armed forces, and all uniformed personnel.

This incentive payment is extended to government retirees, including pension and non-pensioned veterans.

Notably, the work disaster ex-gratia scheme's coverage has been expanded, and the salary ceiling limit increased from RM4,000 to RM6,000.

Razarudin acknowledged that rewards have been conferred upon law enforcement agencies exhibiting unwavering commitment and outstanding performance.

"The police are dedicated to ensuring the full utilisation of all Budget 2024 incentives with sound financial management.

"Our aim is to preserve law and order in the country, aligning with the development goals of Madani Malaysia," he added.
