Budget 2024: Pas hopes Iskandar Dzulkarnain's support for PM untrue
NURUL HUDA HUSAINKUALA LUMPUR - Pas hopes that Kuala Kangsar Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid's decision to support the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not true.
Its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said that he was still waiting for further updates on the matter.
At the same time, he also stressed that the allegation that the Bersatu MP was blackmailed should not have happened.
"That is an official statement from the party's secretary general, and I think he has received information regarding the matter. We hope that it did not happen. The matter of disbursement of funds shouldn't have happened, as it was the government's responsibility to give them to all the MPs.
"We understand the challenges faced by every representative of the people," he said after the 2024 Budget tabling in Parliament today.
Earlier today, Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the threat and intimidation used on the MP were to secure support for the Madani government in regaining a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Hamzah claimed that on Oct 1, Iskandar was brought to meet a senior officer from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at a hotel in Damansara and was threatened with corruption charges if he was unwilling to sign a pre-prepared media statement stating his support for the government.
Yesterday, Iskandar, in a statement, decided to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.
