SHAH ALAM - The Social Security Organisation (Socso) will provide a special incentive of RM1,500 a month for six months to support over 3,300 job seekers.

In tabling the 2024 Budget, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government will allocate RM30 million for this initiative.

"This effort will further encourage vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, ex-convicts, and the elderly, to continue receiving sources of income," he added.

Anwar said the government's contribution rate under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) will be increased to 90 per cent with an allocation of RM100 million.

"I urge platform operators to cover the remaining 10 per cent of contributions on behalf of gig workers. I believe platform operators are deeply concerned about the welfare of their workers," he added.

Further, the government will also raise the matching contribution limit under the i-Saraan EPF programme to RM500 per year, limited to RM5,000 for a lifetime.

The Housewives' Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) will also continue with an allocation of RM50 million to benefit more than 400 thousand housewives registered under eKasih, Anwar said.

Anwar said the Employees' Provident Fund's (EPF) i-Sayang programme will also be expanded to allow wives to transfer two percent of their contributions to their husband's EPF accounts.
