KUALA LUMPUR - System issues were the reason for the counter transactions not being operational at Menara Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) 2 last Thursday and Friday.
The city hall issued a statement today in response to a viral video on the absence of DBKL staff at the service counters of the Department of Licencing and Business Development located on the 5th floor of Menara DBKL 2.
Through a video explanation shared on the TikTok application, DBKL said an investigation into the issue had been conducted and found that counter transactions couldn't be carried out due to licencing system access problems.
"Notice of notification to customers has been posted at the entrance, and verbal notifications have been given to customers.
During the incident, only payments and bills could be made at the counter, while other staff members were instructed to check agreement documents in a separate workspace to ensure that other transactions could still be continued," it said today.
A 20-second viral video on social media showed many non-operational counters with no staff.
The accompanying video explanation also expressed frustration, stating, "How can the country progress when the counters are open but there's no one to man them?" DBKL also apologised for the unexpected incident.
"We apologise for any inconvenience experienced and will always strive to provide the best service to the city's residents," they said.
