SHAH ALAM - North Korea on Tuesday accused Israel of intensifying the confrontation with Hamas as a result of "Israel's ceaseless criminal actions" against the Palestinian people.

There has been a significant armed war between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas.

The war was referred to as the result of Israel's ongoing criminal actions against the Palestinian people by the international community.

According to Yonhap News, a Seoul-based news outlet, "a fundamental solution was an independent Palestinian state," which was quoted from Rodong Sinmun, the official journal of North Korea's ruling party.

The journal had previously criticised Israeli soldiers for their treatment of Palestinian people.

Last Saturday, the Gaza-based resistance group Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood against Israel and fired a barrage of rockets.

It said the unexpected assault was in response to settler aggression increasing and incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

Israeli forces launched Operation Swords of Iron on Hamas in the Gaza Strip as retaliation.

According to the Gaza-based Health Ministry on Tuesday, the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli troops in Gaza now stands at 704, including 143 children and 105 women.

It stated that there are now about 4,000 wounded people.

The Israeli army "intensified its aggression" on Gaza, according to the Interior Ministry in Gaza, with hundreds of raids.

In nighttime strikes on Gaza, the Israeli army claimed to have hit around 500 targets, many of which it said belonged to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, another Palestinian resistance organisation.
