GENEVA/GAZA - Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip had killed 11 United Nations staff by Wednesday evening, among them five teachers at schools run by the UN and a gynaecologist, German news agency (dpa) quoted the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Some were killed in their homes with their families, UNRWA said.

In the morning, the organisation had reported nine deaths among UN staff.

The relief agency reiterated that civilians must be protected as a matter of principle in conflicts. "We call for the fighting to end, to spare more civilian lives," the relief agency said. - BERNAMA-DPA
