Focus on development of kenaf as alternative source of raw material - Fadillah

KOTA BHARU - The Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry and the National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) will focus on the development of kenaf as an alternative source of raw material besides other fibres like bamboo, pineapple, bananas and palm.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said this was following the National Agricommodity Policy 2021-2030 (DAKN 2030) which was enacted as a national commodity sector development policy and kenaf was defined as natural fibre.

"I am confident that the potential of the natural fibre and biomass industry in Malaysia, which covers kenaf, can grow successfully and move forward. It is also in line with current global requirements which emphasise aspects of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG),” he said at the launch of the LKTN Golden Jubilee celebration here tonight.

Elaborating, Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, said that in order to achieve that goal, LKTN cannot be comfortable with its current achievements and position.

"LKTN must always be proactive, innovative and dynamic as well as change according to current developments through close cooperation with all parties,” he said. - BERNAMA
