KUALA TERENGGANU - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been urged to step down from his position as Finance Minister due to alleged failure in addressing the rising costs of living that is burdening the people.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris has claimed that there has been no clear efforts or directions taken by the government to tackle the issue.

"We do not see any efforts towards stabilising prices or alleviating the people's concerns because essential goods are unavailable in the market.

"If even its ally MCA is pressuring him (Anwar) to resign as Finance Minister, as an opposition party, we go beyond that (resignation as Prime Minister)," he told reporters here.

Last Tuesday, MCA urged Anwar to resign from his position as Finance Minister to fully focus on the administration of the country.

The party's spokesperson, Mike Chong, said that Anwar should appoint a second Finance Minister who can focus on economic matters, thereby enabling him to concentrate on the affairs of the state.

"It's not about a cabinet reshuffle; Anwar needs to resign as Prime Minister. Reshuffling is just like changing the same thing again.

"He needs to resign to allow the people to choose a new leader because he has failed miserably. Our currency has never dropped below RM4.70 in history.

"Prices of goods have risen because our currency is weak, and no effort has been made to address the problem. So, Anwar should step down," Razali said.
