KUALA LUMPUR - An eight-month-old baby girl tragically died after being left inside a car by her mother for over 10 hours in the parking lot of a hospital here.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said preliminary investigations revealed that the mother, who was in her 30s, worked as a doctor at the hospital.

He said the woman placed her child in the back seat of the car to be taken to a daycare centre at around 7.20am.

"However, the mother proceeded to drive to her workplace, assuming that the child had been dropped off at the daycare centre.

"The mother only realised when her husband told her that evening the child had not been taken to the daycare," he said in a statement today.

Investigations also found that the hospital medical staff received the child unconscious at 5.53pm, he added.

"Further examination confirmed that the youngest of two siblings had tragically died as a result of the incident.

"Police will record statements from the child's mother regarding the incident," he said.
