BENTONG - Pas had not decided whether to field a new face or maintain the incumbent candidate in Kemaman parliament following the seat vacancy.

Pas secretary general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said that a meeting to determine the candidate will be held in the near future.

"Essentially, our new candidate is not subject to any restrictions to be selected as a candidate. That's all," he said at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Ceramah Perdana for the Pelangai by-election in Simpang Pelangai today.

On Sept 26, the Terengganu Election Court received a petition filed by a voter to annul the victory of Kemaman Member of Parliament from Pas, Che Alias Hamid, in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The decision was made after confirming that there was corruption during the election, but it did not name any party.

However, last Tuesday, Takiyuddin announced that Pas would not submit an appeal against the election petition results for the Kemaman parliament.

In regards to former two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad being named as a candidate, Takyuddin simply responded, "Anyone who is a Malaysian citizen can be a candidate." "I don't know. We need to ask the press (media) who made up the story. That is not from us, so any citizen can be a candidate, anyone," he said.

Pas vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar reportedly denied Mahathir being a Pas candidate in the Kemaman by-election.
