BENTONG - "I came here (Pelangai) because of the community relationship with the people," says former Pahang Menteri Besar Tan Sri Adnan Yaakob.

Adnan met with the residents since Tuesday to help Pelangai state by-election Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Amizar Abu Adam in his campaign.

The former Pelangai assemblyman for eight terms said his presence was expected by many parties including political leaders themselves.

"I had to go to the ground because many voters and certain leaders texted me asking me to meet them.

"I don't have a campaign, the campaign is just helping, giving explanations to the voters.

"I actually did not want to come because this is the prime minister's, menteri besar's show, I do not want to overshadow them... but I came here because of personal relationship, they remember me, I also remember people," he said when met at Kampung Semerting here, today.

Adnan, 73, said surprises could happen anywhere including in the by-election. However, he said he will remain in Umno.

"I'm an Umno member and it is fate that the party has supported me.

"I am still with Umno and have also asked them all to think about the future for the sake of survival. I am confident that now the Menteri Besar is from Umno, the Prime Minister is from Pakatan Harapan, I believe they can help," he added.

Meanwhile, the former Bentong Division Umno chief said voters still remembered Umno, BN, the late Datuk Seri Johari Harun and himself.

"I have reminded them to elect the people's representatives, not to elect the government, the Menteri Besar is a person who cares a lot about helping the people, so after this by-election, meet the elected representatives if there is a problem and take the elected representatives to the Menteri Besar.

"And every election, don't make any assessment, it's rarely accurate..even the agencies involved can't give an accurate view, it's not easy, it involves emotions," he said.
