BMW driver panicked, did not know how to turn back - Police

GEORGETOWN - A female driver who was driving against the flow on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway last Monday said she panicked because she went the wrong way and did not know how to turn back when the incident happened.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the 41-year-old woman, who was from Alor Star, Kedah worked as a bank officer in the state.

He said at the time of the incident, the woman driving the BMW car was on her way home after leaving a restaurant at Persiaran Karpal Singh here.

"We have not yet taken statements from the two drivers because they are still being treated in hospital. The driver of the Perodua Bezza has just undergone surgery to cut his small intestine at Penang Hospital as a result of the violation.

"Meanwhile, the female driver only experienced dizziness and shortness of breath. She is still being treated at a private hospital here," he said at a press conference at the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters here on Wednesday.

Kok Chin added that the police had already taken blood samples from the female driver for alcohol and drug tests.

"We are still waiting for the results of the woman's blood sample analysis before further investigations are carried out.

"The investigation found that the woman was driving against the current for five kilometers before hitting another vehicle," he said.
