Cabinet reshuffle: Sorry, no information, says MCA

SHAH ALAM - MCA is keeping mum on a speculation that its party leaders might be appointed into the Unity Government's Cabinet following rumours of a ministerial reshuffle.

Its secretary general Datuk Chong Sin Woon said that at the moment, his party does not have any information on the matter.

"Sorry, I have no information, so I cannot make any comments," he briefly responded to Sinar via WhatsApp.

A news portal yesterday reported that MCA or MIC representatives may be part of the Cabinet following rumours of a supposed reshuffle tentatively to be done some time after the Pelangai by-election this weekend.

Despite being part of Barisan Nasional (BN), both the MCA and MIC have zero representation in the Cabinet after the coalition partnered with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in forming government last year.

Sinar's attempt to get comments from MIC leaders was unsuccessful as calls and texts were not returned.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that he did not rule out the possibility of discussing about a Cabinet reshuffle when he met the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara.

However, he also remarked that ministerial realignment was not an urgent matter as there was only one vacancy that needed to be filled, namely, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister which was emptied following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Talk of a Cabinet gained grounds after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had hinted last Sunday, that it would happen in the near future with him citing Salahuddin's death being one of the reason for it.
