GPS committed to unity govt, wants to foster development-based politics - Fadillah

PUTRAJAYA: Political instability will only deter foreign investors from establishing a presence in the country, thus complicating the efforts of the unity government to revive the nation's economy in the current challenging environment.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said those who sought to divide the existing government should cease from doing so and instead focus on development-based politics.

He added that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was committed to ensure that the current government remained in power for the entire term for the greater good of Malaysia as a whole.

"My suggestion and hope for everyone in politics, regardless of who you are, ensure that the stability of our nation is maintained so that if we want to debate and engage in politics, let it be development-based politics.

"Give priority to the interests of the nation and work together to create stability and provide constructive input on how we can recover our country's economy," he said during a press conference after officiating the launch of the fourth Palm Biodiesel Conference and the flag-off of Petronas B100, today.

Fadillah, who is also GPS chief whip was commenting on a statement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday that there were parties who were unhappy and wanted to divide the unity government due to jealousy of its strong coalition.

Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said this was because the cooperation involving PH together with Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was solid.

Meanwhile, Fadillah said GPS adhered to the principle of ensuring stability within the country.

"If anyone follows the speech of the Sarawak Premier during the Malaysia Day celebration in Kuching, he has expressed commitment that GPS will focus on ensuring a stable and strong government.

"We will continue to support the unity government to create political stability and a stable government," he added. - AWANI
