Family of four feared missing after Pulau Perhentian vacation

BESUT – Police confirm receiving a report of a family of four who were feared missing while on vacation at Pulau Perhentian here.

District Police Chief Superintendent Abdul Rozak Muhammad said reports regarding the disappearance of the victims were made on Monday after they were out of reach since Sept 30.

"Investigations revealed that all the victims, comprising two children, the mother and younger brother of the complainant, had gone to Pulau Perhentian on Sept 29 and had stayed at Senja Bay Resort before checking out at 8am on Oct 1.

"Investigation also found that all the victims had participated in snorkelling activities on September 29 and 30 and the boat operator told the complainant that his mother's and sister's phones had been damaged by water and could not be turned on," he said in a statement here, on Tuesday.

Rozak said the victims boarded the boat at about 8am and arrived at the Kuala Besut jetty at around 9am.

He said the victim also mentioned that he was going to Batu Buruk in Kuala Terengganu after leaving Pulau Perhentian.

"The police were told that the victims were using a light blue Proton Saga BLM car with registration number JRW6380.

"A closed-circuit camera (CCTV) check found that the vehicle used by the victim was spotted moving out of Kuala Besut town towards the Seberang Customs bridge at 10.06am on Oct 1.

"However, all the victims failed to be contacted until now and the investigation still continues to locate all the victims," he said.

He requested people with information to contact the investigating officer of the case Inspector Nur Izzati Arina at (017-3792157) or the Besut District Police Headquarters (09-6956222) or any nearby police station.

He warned the public not to make any speculations or spread false news that would interfere with the investigation.

On Monday, a message went viral by a Facebook account owner who expressed concern about the loss of two children, his mother and a younger brother who had failed to be contacted since last Saturday.
