KANGAR - An autopsy conducted on the nurse who was stabbed by her husband at their home in Padang Nyu, Arau last Saturday found that the cause of death was due to stab wounds that penetrated her liver and internal blood vessels.

Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Mohd Rodi said the findings were made from the autopsy conducted at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Setar.

"Based on the results of the autopsy carried out at HSB, the victim, Munirah Abu Bakar, 31, died as a result of stab wounds to the liver and inferior vena cava.

"However, the police are still waiting for the full report of the autopsy," he told reporters today.

Mohsin said the police had so far seen that there was no need for a psychiatric evaluation to be conducted on the suspect who was the victim's husband.

He said a urine test found that the suspect was positive for methamphetamine at the time of the crime.

"Drug influence was not the cause of the incident, but when the suspect's urine test was conducted, we found that he was positive for methamphetamine," he said.

Yesterday, Kangar Magistrate's Court allowed the suspect to be remanded until Oct 7 to assist the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
