JOHOR BAHRU - Eleven friends, eight men and three women, were charged with three counts of drug trafficking involving 19 kilogrammes of drugs in Skudai last month.

The accused, who are aged between 17 and 32, nodded after the charges were read to them by the court interpreter in front of Magistrate A Shaarmini. However, no admissions were recorded.

The first, second, and third charges allege that the accused distributed 18.8kg of MDMA, 558 grames of ketamine, and 52 grammes of Nimetazepam at a house in Jalan Bukit Skudai 6, Taman Bukit Skudai, at around 2am on Sept 23.

The charges are under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 15 lashes upon conviction.

The case was managed by Shamira Mohd Luthfi Ismail, while only three of the accused were represented by lawyers.

The court denied bail for all the accused, and set Nov 2 for the case to be mentioned again for the submission of the chemical report.
