'Ringgit's value depreciation three days in a row is worrying' - Hamzah
SHAH ALAM - Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin describes the drop in the ringgit's value reaching over RM4.70 as worrying as it has a drastic impact on the economy and the country's inflation rate.
Hamzah said if the economy was dire, it would affect the public, especially when almost 52.3 per cent of the basic food in the nation was imported.
The government was allegedly rigid and stiff in handling the issue, he added.
“For three days in a row, ringgit had fallen to a level over RM4.70.
“On Wednesday and Thursday, it fell to RM4.71. This morning, the ringgit’s value was still at RM4.70.
“Remember, the public wants to see results, and the government has had almost a year. Do your work to the best of your abilities,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
The Larut MP said other than the drop in ringgit’s values, the nation also faced the crisis of rice supply shortages and price hikes of food items.
“Immediate concrete and comprehensive intervention measures were not made, but only gave excuses after excuses.
“When the rice issue arose, the out-of-the-box idea was to tell the people to change their attitude, reduce demand to ensure supply is guaranteed, and eat less to reduce the cost of living.
“If this is the way the nation is managed, don’t blame any party if some label the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-BN government as a failure,” he said.
