AMPANG - A lorry driver was injured on Tuesday, allegedly in an act of revenge, when he was attacked by a man wielding a machete at a house in Pandan Perdana.

Ampang Jaya District police chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail, said a 40-year-old woman received a WhatsApp message from her husband, who reported the attack at 4.15 pm.

"The 43-year-old victim was assaulted while retrieving mail at his former residence, sustaining injuries to his wrist and two stab wounds to his back. He is currently receiving treatment at Ampang Hospital," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Azam further said that they apprehended the suspect, a 28-year-old garbage collector, in a car at 12.30 am in Taman Setapak Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday.

"We also seized a white shirt and a machete with a black handle believed to have been used during the incident," he added.

He added that the incident is believed to have stemmed from an old grudge, with the suspect alleging that the victim and some of his friends had assaulted him.

"Checks revealed that the suspect has a history of 10 prior criminal offences, and an initial urine screening test returned positive results for drugs, specifically amphetamine, methamphetamine, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)."

"The suspect has been remanded for seven days starting on Wednesday to assist in the investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code," he concluded.
