JAINJ detains five couples in khalwat raid
SHAHRIZAL AHMAD ZAINIJOHOR BAHRU - Five couples were detained in an anti-immorality operation conducted by the Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) around the city here today.
According to state Islamic affairs exco Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, all 10 individuals, consisting of five locals and five foreigners, were detained at three separate locations following inspections at massage parlours and hotels in the city.
"This operation aims to prevent immoral activities that contravene the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment.
"We are pleased to report that the operation was successful, and we managed to carry out preventive measures and detentions," Fared said.
The operation focused on offences under Section 27 of the State of Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment, which relates to close proximity (khalwat).
Fared added that such operations would continue and would not be limited to weekends and holiday seasons.
"We want to remind the public that enforcement will not only occur at specific times.
"We want to make such actions common so that this sense of urgency serves as a warning that Syariah criminal activities are strongly discouraged and must be avoided.
"This routine will continue, and we will go to any place, even without complaints," he added.
