Elderly stroke patient killed in house fire
ASYIKIN ASMINPENAMPANG - The lifeless body of an elderly stroke patient was found, believed to have been trapped in a house caught on fire in Kampung Babagon here today.
In the 9am incident, the body of Liew Ah Ngou, 68, was discovered in the bedroom of the house.
The Penampang Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) chief, Zeno Tinggalan, said they received the distress call on the incident at 9.07am.
He said a team of Penampang Fire and Rescue officers assisted by officers from Kota Kinabalu, rushed to the location of the incident, located 11.3 kilometres away.
"The incident involved a semi-permanent house that was 95 per cent burned. The fire and rescue team also said there was no access for fire engines to enter the location.
"The firefighters hurried to the scene on foot, crossing a suspension bridge to reach the location, and firefighting efforts were immediately carried out," he told Sinar.
Investigations found one victim deceased in the incident.
"The victim lived alone and was known to be a stroke patient.
"The victim's body was then handed over to the police for further action," he said.
He added that the operation was ended at 11.30am.
