PETALING JAYA - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will continue as the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President despite rumors of changes in the party's top leadership.

Bersatu's Information Chief Datuk Razali Idris told Utusan Malaysia that there would be no changes to the position of the party President.

"Pressure from external sources is common, but Muhyiddin will remain our President

"Unless there is pressure from within the party for him to step down and make way for someone else, like (Umno President) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, which the supreme council would certainly urge him to do.

"We still need Muhyiddin to lead Bersatu for now, especially given the country's economic situation in the aftermath of Covid-19," he added.

Earlier, Bersatu Secretary-General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was among the leaders reportedly stated as a major challenger to the top position in the party if Muhyiddin, as President, decided not to contest in the upcoming party election.

Razali also said that Bersatu would maintain the momentum of youth empowerment in the 16th General Election (GE16), where Perikatan Nasional (PN) remained the state government in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu in the recent State Elections in six states.
