KUALA SELANGOR - McDonald's Malaysia is conducting an internal investigation into an incident where an employee charged a customer for chili sauce, which recently went viral.

Its CEO and Local Operations Director Datuk Azmir Jaafar said the company needs to first review the reports that circulated on Facebook.

"We will hear explanations from both parties, the employee and the customer who claims to have been charged.

"For now, we do not wish to comment further, as it is still under investigation," he said after the 4th Convocation Ceremony of McDonald's Malaysia Vocational Academy at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam here today.

When asked if McDonald's charges for chili sauce when customers request extra, Azmir clarified that no charge is imposed except when additional requests for nugget sauce flavoring exist.

"We do not sell chili sauce, but customers should also be reasonable; they can't ask for 20 packets of chili sauce.

"But sometimes, such cases occur," he said.

Previously, a social media post went viral stating McDonald's allegedly charged RM10.60 for 10 packets of chili sauce at one of its outlets in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.

Commenting on the increase in imported rice prices and the difficulty in obtaining local rice, Azmir acknowledged the situation and its impact on everyone.

"At McDonald's, we use 70 per cent local rice, while the rest is imported rice, and we will ensure that this supply is always sufficient," he added.

He said that despite the rise in rice prices, they have not raised food prices and will continue to maintain the same prices.

"The menu prices at McDonald's comply with the guidelines of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry.

"We also continue to maintain the 'Menu Rahmah' and diversify the menu options in our restaurants," he added.
