Van carrying three LTdL 2023 cyclists veers off road
SHAH ALAM - A van believed to be carrying three Giant Cycling Team riders veered off the road during Stage 3 of the 2023 Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) from Jeli, Kelantan to Baling, Kedah this morning.
Chief Operating Officer Emir Abdul Jalal stated that the van transporting the team from China overturned while passing through the neutral zone in Jeli.
"Yes, I can confirm there was an accident involving the van carrying the Giant Cycling Team.
"I can also report that so far, no riders have suffered serious injuries," he told Sinar.
Earlier, according to LTdL's official X account, the three riders were not allowed to compete in Stage 3 because they failed to arrive on time at the departure venue at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Jeli Campus.
"It is true that they were unable to compete in Stage 3 because they arrived late at the departure venue.
"Due to this, they immediately boarded the team van to go to the finishing venue in Baling."
It is understood that the three riders involved in the accident, which occurred during light rain, were Lin Chuanyang, Wang Zichen, and Huang Junlei, in addition to a driver and an official from the Giant Cycling Team.
The absence of these three riders sees the Giant Cycling Team relying on only one of their riders, Deng Penghai, to continue the Stage 3 challenge over a distance of 183.1 kilometres.
