SHAH ALAM - Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman has questioned the action of Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying who provided additional allocations to three schools in Pelangai, Bentong, Pahang a day before the nomination for the Pelangai state by-election.

He said this was clearly against DAP’s slogan that elections should be carried out in a clean and fair manner, even though some may view the assistance as a coincidence.

He said the practice of announcing projects and additional allocations before and during election campaigns will give an advantage to the government over the opposition.

"The culture of bribery and threats in politics should not continue, even though it has been openly witnessed in the Pulai by-election and state elections before.

"In fact, the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) also expressed dissatisfaction and lodged a police report against seditious speeches and threats to lure votes in the Pulai parliamentary by-election recently,” he claimed in a statement today.

He said this in response to Lim's action of providing an additional allocation of RM110,000 for facility upgrades at three schools, namely SJKC Manchis and SJKC Telemong, each receiving RM30,000 and SJKT Ladang Renjok, which received RM50,000.

Syahir, who is also Pas deputy secretary-general said he hoped that such practices will not occur in the upcoming Pelangai state by-election.

"We hope that the elections in Pelangai, a remote rural area, will not be tainted by money politics, bribery and voter intimidation.
